I leave for Morocco in the morning

Next stop… Morocco

Post-COVID my travel style has been as much about ticking things off my bucket list as it has been about discovering new destinations.

I often add things to my bucket list based on photos that I see. I went to East Africa after seeing a photo of somebody in the jungle with a Mountain Gorilla in Rwanda, and I went to Kyrgyzstan after seeing a photo of an overland truck next to a pristine mountain lake.

Morocco was added to my bucket list some time ago after I saw a photo of the Atlas Mountains and decided that I wanted to visit them. So, when an opportunity presented itself to visit Morocco this year, I decided that I had to take it.

So, over the next 10 days, I will be travelling around the south of Morocco with Intrepid on a loop that will start and end in Marrakech, taking in sights such as the dunes of the Sahara, the Atlas Mountains, the Atlantic coast, and everything in between.

A change to the itinerary

Due to the recent devastating earthquake that hit the country recently the trip has had to be altered slightly. We will now spend less time in Marrakech, will not be visiting a village high up in the Atlas Mountains, and will spend more time on the coast but it should still be an amazing trip and I’m really looking forward to it.

I fly out tomorrow to Marrakech but, to make sure that I’m rested before my flight, I’m staying overnight at the Thistle Hotel near Heathrow Terminal 5. I always try to stay here if I have a flight from Terminal 5, unless it’s an evening flight, as it has good links to the terminal, and for an aviation enthusiast like me it’s in a great location overlooking the runway.

There are lots of options for food and drink too including a bar, restaurant, and terrace which all overlook the runway and serve decent enough food.
